Biography

A co-founder of Schmidt McElwee & Gordon, PLLC, Paul G. Schmidt focuses his practice exclusively on family law matters. He represents clients throughout the state of Arizona from the firm's offices in Phoenix.

As an undergraduate, Mr. Schmidt attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, receiving a Bachelor of Science cum laude in 1984. He subsequently pursued his legal education at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, and he served as a member of the Arizona Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 1989. Mr. Schmidt became admitted to practice before all Arizona state courts later that year, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.

As is the case with many family law attorneys, Mr. Schmidt devotes a great deal of his practice to the representation of people who are going through a divorce and other family law matters or who are contemplating the process. He helps them understand how their divorce or other family law matter will proceed in Arizona as a community property state and how the state's courts deal with the other legal issues of parenting time, child support, and alimony. When appropriate, he helps them to negotiate a comprehensive settlement agreement to resolve these matters. However, as an experienced trial attorney, Mr. Schmidt is a forceful courtroom advocate on behalf of clients in the event that litigation becomes necessary.

In addition to his matrimonial practice, Mr. Schmidt has prepared and reviewed numerous prenuptial and post-marital agreements. His family law experience has also included order modifications and enforcement. Held in high regard by his colleagues, he is AV Preeminent* peer-review rated through Martindale-Hubbell.

*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
